How the iTero scanner works

Instead of biting into a tray of impression material, your dentist gently moves a handheld wand around your mouth. The wand captures thousands of images per second and stitches them into a highly accurate, full-color 3D model on the screen beside you.

Because the scan is digital, there’s nothing to ship to a lab by mail and no risk of a distorted or bubbled impression that needs to be retaken. The file is sent electronically the moment we finish.

iTero and Invisalign®

The iTero scanner integrates directly with Invisalign®. We can scan your teeth and immediately generate a simulation of how your smile could look after treatment, then send the file to begin fabricating your custom clear aligners, making the path to a straighter smile faster and more predictable.

What to expect during your scan

A scan is quick, comfortable, and completely non-invasive. You’ll sit back while we glide the wand over your teeth and watch the 3D model build in real time. The optical scan involves no radiation, and most patients are surprised by how easy it is.
